Renault

Renault

CAR AUTO ONLINE | Renault | Renault  is a French automobile manufacturer producing cars and vans, and in the past, autorail vehicles, trucks, tractors, and also buses. Renault brothers Marcel and Fernand founded the leading French car manufacturer in 1899. The first cars of Renault designed by their brother, Louis began winning road races from 1899 onwards, due to public demand for the development of the company cars. Renault soon developed a network of sales, and in 1905, was transferred to a boat of the industrial production of cars to meet large orders for taxis in Paris and New York.

Renault

France had surpassed the United States of America, the leading producer of impact on the philosophy supported by the introduction of the Ford assembly line in motion, and prices available without interruption of the war, has seen a big change. Both Renault and Citroen have tried to learn American methods, the way the Citroën. In 1920, Renault has expanded the production line for trucks and tractors.

Renault

The company also built a large factory at Billancourt near Paris in order, like Ford at his Baton Rouge complex in Michigan in the USA, to control as many aspects of car production—from raw materials to component parts—within a single company. Assembly lines were introduced at Renault and the factory completed in 1937. Renault automobile designs followed fairly conventional lines until the later 1920s when external consultants Hibbard & Darrin were brought in for the Reinastella range of 1928.

Renault

In common with other manufacturers in Europe and the United States, streamlined forms also made their impact on the Renault range in the 1930s, as seen in the Viva Grand Sport of 1934 designed by Marcel Riffart. Three years later Renault launched its first attempt at a people's car, the streamlined Juvaquatre, affordable and with hydraulic brakes. Nonetheless, technological imperative rather than style generally informed the outlook of Renault's body design department, directed by Roger Barthaud.

In 1946, Renault launched its 4CV, a symbol of mass motoring in France, with the popular Dauphine following a decade later, with the rather box-like, functional Renault 4 of 1961 providing a design response to the Suez crisis.

Renault

During the 1950s Renault had begun working with the Italian automobile body design company Ghia and also set up a centre for styling. In charge of this from 1960 to 1963 was Philippe Charbonneaux, who came from a design background that included General Motors. Gaston Juchet, who had arrived at Renault in 1958, was in charge of styling from 1963 to 1975 and worked with a distinguished team of designers including Michel Boué (1936-71), the designer of the highly successful, stylish yet practical R5 (1972-92), and Robert Opron, designer of the R14.

Renault

As had been the case in the late 1950s, links with Italian designers and stylists such as Ital Design were maintained and fostered. Opron, who had arrived at Renault with a background at Simca and Citroën, took charge of the Style Centre from 1975 to 1984 and was ably assisted by Gaston Juchet (applied style) and Jacques Nocher (advanced styling). Opron also extended the range of design consultants used by the company, linking with figures such as Terence Conran and Mario Bellini. Models at this time included the Renault 25 (1985) and the Renault Espace (1984).

Renault

The design of the latter was innovative, shifting ideas of family motoring away from the conventional format of a four-seater towards a more convivial, flexible, and relaxing configuration. After Opron left for Fiat in 1984, Juchet again took charge of styling for another three years until the arrival of Patrick Le Quément, who became director of industrial design in 1988. Models introduced at this time included the Clio (1991), the Twingo (1992), and the Scenic (1991) which, in parallel with the earlier Espace, initiated mini-MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) design thinking.

Renault

Its alliance with Nissan, which makes the world's third largest automaker. Together, Renault and Nissan is developing the electric car as a leader among the major automakers invest € 4000000000 (5.16 billion U.S. dollars) for eight electric cars over the next 3-4 years. Headquartered in Boulogne-Billancourt, Renault and Dacia of Romania has the Korean automaker Renault Samsung Motors. Renault also owns a subsidiary of RCI Banque (which provides automotive financing) and Motrio (auto parts). Renault Trucks, a former Renault Industrial Vehicles, was part of Volvo Trucks in 2001. Renault Agriculture was 100% owned by German manufacturer of agricultural machinery CLAAS in 2008.

Renault

A Lebanese, Carlos Ghosn is the current Director General. Car company's most successful to date is the Renault Clio and Renault Laguna, and its main market is Europe. The company is known for his role in motorsport, and its success in recent years in the rally and Formula 1. The French government has 15 percent of Renault. - CAR REVIEW

2012 Renault Duster Concept and Engine

New 2012 Renault Duster is an antidote to that idea. With a length of 4.31 metres and a width of 1.82 metres, Renault Duster is very compact. Its Megane-size proportions ensure that it is as at home in built-up areas as it is off the beaten track. Renault Duster was designed to cope with all types of road and track, all over the world. In order to meet these wide-ranging needs, Renault Duster will be available in both 4x4 and 4x2 form. The strengthened underside of Renault Duster is suitable for loose-surfaces and all-terrain use thanks to: high ground clearance of 210mm, short overhangs (822mm at the front, 820mm at the rear) and big clearance angles.

2012 Renault Duster
2012 Renault Duster
Renault Duster's occupants will appreciate the high standard of travelling comfort it provides, whatever the type of road or terrain, thanks to its high ride-height (205mm in 4x2 version and 210mm in 4x4 version) and specific work on its suspension (damper travel, springs and calibration). Comfort is further enhanced by Duster's long wheelbase (2.67m) and big 16-inch wheels. Renault Duster can be ordered with a 1.6 16V 105 petrol engine or a dCi 85 diesel engines, both of which have already showcased their qualities under the bonnet of numerous other Renault models. The combined cycle fuel consumption of the 4x2 and 4x4 versions of Renault Duster dCi 85 is just 5.1 and 5.3 litres/100km respectively. The combines cycle fuel consumption of the 4x2 and 4x4 versions of Renault Duster 1.6 16V 105 is 7.5 and 7.9 litres/100km respectively.

2012 Renault Duster Interior
Renault Duster benefits from Renault’s acclaimed expertise in the area of safety. On the active safety front, Renault Duster features, depending on versions, Bosch 8.1 ABS, as well as EBV electronic brakeforce distribution and EBA emergency brake assist. On the passive safety front, Renault Duster is fitted, as standard, with two front airbags (depending on market) and three-point seat belts with load limiters for the front seats, to which pyrotechnic pretensioners can be added. Depending on the version, two lateral head/thorax airbags are fitted in addition to the driver and passenger front airbags.

2012 Renault Frendzy New Concept

Renault’s latest concept car has a dual personality. These days, professional and personal lives are so intricately interwoven that drivers find themselves permanently channel-hopping between one world and the other. The role of Renault Frendzy is to be a partner that takes the strain out of this lifestyle. On the passenger’s side, there’s no glazing and no centre pillar, just one conventional door and one sliding side door which incorporates a 37-inch widescreen display. This is the world of work. The driver’s side, complete with side windows, still no centre pillar, but with centre opening doors represents the world of the family.

New 2012 Renault Frendzy is a vehicle that adapts to the requirements of the business user, with a large external screen that can display useful messages or information (such as “making deliveries” or “back in five minutes”, the battery-charging method or the remaining charge) or advertising messages, either whilst parked or on the move. Come the weekend, the vehicle transforms itself into a family vehicle, with a comfortable passenger seat and, in the rear, a big bench seat. Depending on their mood of the moment, children can watch a film or play games on the touch-sensitive pad which slides out from the back of the driver’s seat. They can even draw on a special slate integrated into the sliding door.

2012 Renault Frendzy
2012 Renault Frendzy
The driver’s side cockpit is designed along the theme of a futuristic ‘work bench’ featuring a structure which appears to be made from molten metal. Green light emanating from the dashboard brings this smooth and organic architecture to life. These lights signify the ‘work’ mode and tie in with the colour displayed on the exterior of the vehicle. Dominant throughout is the sense that the interior forms a cosy cabin which echoes the simple yet practical world of camping, and this is further reflected by extensive use of wood. Indeed, as much a symbol of warmth as it is of strength and timelessness, wood forms a link between the two modes. The leather latticework seats and removable accessories also refer to the camping metaphor.

2012 Renault Frendzy
2012 Renault Frendzy
The chief new feature of Frendzy as an electric vehicle is the extensive work that has gone into the sounds it produces. This work was carried out in conjunction with IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique / Musique). Electric vehicles are silent, so one of the big challenges facing Renault is customizing the sound they produce for safety reasons, notably at slow speeds.

2012 Renault Frendzy Interior
2012 Renault Frendzy Dasboard
Through accident analysis, Renault Frendzy has developed extensive knowledge on accident mechanisms. We can assess the efficiency (lives saved and injuries avoided) of each safety system and rank the systems to be fitted on our vehicles to optimize their real safety. One of the first accident studies was made on the Dauphine! Since then, safety has always fuelled our technical thinking and we have never stopped innovating. Seatbelt load limiters and anti-submarining systems are Renault inventions.

2012 Renault Megane RS Trophy

2012 Renault Megane RS Trophy yellow

yellow color pic of trophy back

With a power output of 265hp and peak torque of 360Nm, Megane RS Trophy delivers unrivalled efficiency for its class. A new tyre fitment and an increase in power make the very most of the Cup chassis' potential, without detracting from the car's acclaimed versatility and ride comfort.

A production run of 500 cars is planned, and Megane RS Trophy's specific styling features put it at the very top of the Megane RS range.

Order books open on June 20, 2011, and the newcomer will be marketed in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. Prices in France will start from €35,500.

Technical evolutions for the existing, exceptional performance package

With maximum power of 265hp (up 15hp), peak torque of 360Nm (+20Nm) available across a particularly broad rev-band (3,000 to 5,000rpm), a power-to-weight ratio of 5.09kg/hp and specific power of 132.5hp/litre, the car boasts an exceptional performance package. Even so, Renault Sport's engineers have worked hard on the specification of the Megane RS's 2.0-litre turbocharged engine to take driving enjoyment and response to even higher levels. Maximum turbo pressure has been uprated to 2.5 bar (up 0.2 bar), while the air intake design has been revised to take the higher pressure and higher running temperatures into account.Performance has been enhanced in the process, and the result is a 0-to-100kph time of just 6.0s (down 0.1s), a top speed of 254kph (up 4kph) and the 1,000km standing start in 25.4s (down 0.3s). Beyond these statistics, however, the experience of driving Renault RS Trophy is a constant source of enjoyment and satisfying sensations. In addition to the finely-tuned set-up of the Cup chassis and the standard limited slip differential, a new tyre fitment contributes to the car's exceptional road-holding on dry roads, especially through tighter turns, as well as in the wet. The design of the Formula 1-inspired Bridge stone Potenza RE050A's asymmetric, directional tread pattern and the form of its tread blocks provide outstanding grip, stability and acoustic comfort, whatever the conditions. Last but not least, Megane RS Trophy's fuel-efficiency has been carefully optimised to return combined-cycle fuel consumption of just 8.2 litres/100km, equivalent to 190g of CO2/km, which represents a saving of 0.2 litres/100km and 5g/km over 2012 Renault Megane RS at the time of the letter's launch.

Assertive yet seductive R.S Trophy. styling cues

2012 Megane RS Trophy is recognisable at a glance thanks to its black roof, specific decals, new rear lip spoiler, 19-inch Gloss Black STEEV wheels with red piping and R.S. valve caps (optional or standard, depending on market) and numbered plaque. The LED daytime running lights also play a part in its striking looks. Trophy marks the introduction of a new Sirius Yellow finish, an emblematic metallic paint that will be particularly appreciated by Renault Sport fans. This specific body colour is available as an alternative to Glacier White, Etoile Black and Cassiopee Grey.

Inside, the Recaro bucket seats (fabric or leather, depending on market) add to the cabin's unmistakably sporty feel, as does the central display which shows the data provided by the R.S. Monitor. This innovative on board data-logging system records performance and displays a range of mechanical parameters in real-time, a feature which owners will especially appreciate during track days, an exercise to which the Trophy lends itself particularly well. Indeed, the car will be on show at the Renault Sport Day which forms part of the Renault Sport Enthusiasts Day programme at the Nurburgring, Germany, on June 17, 2011.

Where will your playground be? In the city or out on the open road? But hang on... who said you had to choose? We kick-started it with a very smart, original idea: a pivoting, electric hard-top roof. Result ? It opens in just 12 seconds to transform the coupé into a roadster. And vice versa. Simple, practical, and super-quick ? Certainly. But here’s the twist. Incredibly, the boot still keeps its same storage space of 270 litres even when the roof is stowed. Nothing else even comes close. We know that the car is at a turning point, it has to evolve whether you believe in global warming or not; to emit less in cities, to make less noise and to use increasingly scarce energy more effi ciently.
2011 Renault Wind Roadster

At 2011 Renault Wind Roadster we are working to create more affordable cars, with radically lower CO2 emissions. For the widest possible audience. Today that’s our collection of 35 ‘eco2’ models. Eco2 indicates that the vehicle produces CO2 emissions lower than 140 g/km, it includes at least 5% recycled plastic in its plastic mass, and has been designed in such a way that 95% of the materials used could have a second life (recyclable for other use or as a source of energy). In addition eco2 means that our factories are ISO 14001 certified.  Starting next year there will be a groundbreaking range of electric vehicles, from a nippy town car to a comfortable family saloon and a small van. They will be affordable to run – you will be able to drive up to 100 miles using a battery that costs typically £3 to charge, and a lot less using cheaper tariffs. And parking and congestion charges should all be lower, too.We believe it’s time to make the car a driver of progress once more. We are determined to drive that change.

2011 Renault Captur Sporty Crossover and DeZir Concept

At the Frankfurt Motor Show, Renault revealed its new brand identity which puts people at the forefront of its concerns. The new, ambition design strategy that resulted from this is founded on different stages of the human life cycle with each phase taking the form of a specific concept car. The first, the two-seater DeZir, expressed ʻfalling in loveʼ, the passion present at the beginning of any new adventure. Now Renault Captur, which will debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, addresses the second phase of this cycle, that of two people exploring the world around them. Just like its predecessor, 2011 Renault Captur defines the simple, sensuous and warm style that will be progressively extended to future Renault car designs. “2011 Renault Captur is a fun and sporty crossover, ideal for a young couple about to discover the world”, explains Director of Design, Laurens Van den Acker. “It takes as its basis the fundamental design language introduced on the DeZir concept car but adds a more technical dimension – more functional but still highly sensuous," adds Axel Breun, Director of concept cars.

2011 Renault Captur

A CROSSOVER THATʼS ALL MUSCLE IN MOTION
In its proportions and fluid curves, 2011 Captur evokes movement and lightness, yet at the same time displaying powerful and muscular all-terrain cues. Just as with DeZir, angles, corners and lines have given way to sensuous and natural forms. For the exterior designer, Julio Lozano, the main sources of inspiration were athletes and radical sports. "In designing 2011 Captur, I began with the image of a sprinter on the starting blocks, his muscles tensed, and the energy unleashed when the starting pistol is fired," he explains The design also references equipment such as helmets, gloves and other protective gear used in radical sports, combining high technology with sophistication and lightness.

2011 Renault Captur

2011 Renault Captur adopts the new frontal identity first presented by DeZir. As with this, the identity has
as its centrepiece a large Renault logo, set vertically against a dark surface so as to stand out as clearly as possible. Substantial, matt-finished wings reinforce the designʼs visual strength. LEDs relay the direction indicator signal in a wave effect running the whole length of the vehicle. 2011 Renault Captur does more than simply stir the emotions: it is also a practical and versatile vehicle. It is fitted with a hard convertible top which, once removed, reveals a carbon fibre framework. 2011 Captur can thus transform itself from a coupé to a convertible, from an urban vehicle to an off-roader, while its overall sporty appeal is reinforced by its butterfly doors and big tyres fitted to 22-inch black and white rims. With its bodywork finished in a spicy shade of orange, Renault Captur takes its cue from the red championed by DeZir. This colour appears in a variety of different shades on materials both inside and outside the vehicle.

AN INTERIOR FULLY BATHED IN WARMTH AND LIGHTNESS
The orange theme has been carried over to the cabin which also features fluorescent highlights picked out by a constant stream of light. "My main sources of inspiration were the human body, outdoor sports and urban styling," explains the colour and trim designer, Kana Watanabe. "I wanted Captur to radiate warmth and dynamism." The interior of 2011 Renault Captur is designed to be both welcoming and occupant-friendly. The impression of lightness expressed by the exterior is dominant here, too, with the front seats attached to the centre console as if suspended in mid air. The passenger compartment is restrained and pure, with no superfluous equipment. Innovative and ingenious materials have been employed, allowing the designers to play with light and  optical effects.

The centre console, door casings and dashboard are formed using a translucent material rather like a second skin. At the front of the cabin, this includes a glimpse of the high-tech fibre ropes, luminescent in places, which have been used for most of the passenger compartment. "The whole of the interior is designed around this network of stretched elastic ropes which bring to mind the worlds of sailing or mountain climbing, They use graphics and light to bring rhythm to the overall design and reinforce the dynamic feel of the vehicle while also ensuring a lighter feel inside the cabin," explains the interior designer, Magali Gouraud-Borgers.

AN INNOVATIVE CROSSOVER - STRONG ON PERFORMANCE AND LIGHT ON FUEL
2011 Renault Captur makes use of the Energy dCi 160 twin-turbo engine concept, developed from the new Energy dCi 130 that will eventually replace the 1.9 dCi. Downsizing is a key element in Renaultʼs strategy to meet its declared objective of being Europeʼs leading automaker for low CO2 emissions. The range of electric vehicles will run alongside internal-combustion engined models that combine performance with reduced fuel consumption. The Energy dCi 160 twin-turbo fits perfectly within this strategy. It produces 118kW (160hp) from a capacity of 1.6 litres thatʼs a specific power output of 100hp per litre. Peak torque (380Nm) is available from as low as 1,750rpm, giving powerful  acceleration from low revs, as well as refined performance under all driving conditions. Paired with a dual clutch EDC gearbox, this driveline promises genuinely enjoyable driving with CO2 emissions of less than 99g per kilometre.

Capturʼs performance is further enhanced by the RX2, a novel system that improves traction at low speeds. Should one of the two driven wheels lose traction, this entirely new mechanical self-locking differential transfers all or part of the engineʼs torque to the wheel with the most grip. Driving on slippery roads and tracks thus remains smooth and effortless.

2011 Renault Captur also marks the debut of the Visio-System, an innovation that uses a forwardfacing camera mounted at the top of the windscreen to provide driver-assistance functions. This new technology is able to embed synthesised images into real-time images of the road ahead displayed on a central screen; this is the principle of augmented reality, aiming to enhance the driverʼs perception of the external world by superimposing purposedesigned elements. The system helps reduce driving stress, for a relaxed, reassuring drive.
