Weird Harley-Davidson Exhibit in Milwaukee

A new exhibit at the Harley-Davidson Museum is proof the Milwaukee motorcycle maker is about much more than its classic hogs.


An all-leather motorcycle made in Japan, rarely seen prototype bikes and a rocket engine that powered drone missiles during the Vietnam War are just a few of the items the company has dug out of its archive for "Collection X: Weird, Wild Wonders of the Harley-Davidson Museum." ... Read more

Bikes on the Bay

Capitola -- Old motorcycles found new appreciation Sunday at the Bikes on the Bay vintage show at the Capitola Mall.


The collection of old bikes drew hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts to the Capitola Mall parking lot Sunday. Orchestrated by the Capitola-Soquel Chamber of Commerce, the sixth annual event has been at the mall for four years and is growing, chamber Director Toni Castro said.



"It's seems to be going very well," Castro said, over sounds of laughter, music and motors. The event included vendors, too, along with an impressive array of vintage motorcycles and some scooters. Coos Art Museum will be exhibiting "Thunder at CAM an Exhibition of Motorcycles and Motorcycle Art" from June 10 to July 23, 2011.

Since their invention, motorcycles have been a focus of popular interest and expression which now crosses generational and gender lines. This exhibition visually explores the public’s fascination with motorcycles and motorcycle culture.

1938 Brough Superior Best of Show at Quail

.



The Quail Motorcycle Gathering, an avenue for motorcycle collectors, custom bike builders and enthusiasts to showcase immaculately restored vintage and historically significant motorcycles, was a roaring success this weekend. The intimate gathering at the Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club had an excellent turnout. The motorcycles entered in the concours were as varied and creative as their owners. Guest judges like The Vintagent’s Paul d’Orleans and the esteemed Kevin Cameron of Cycle World fame had their hands full as many bikes were worthy of the vaunted “Best of Show” title. But it was the Rolls Royce of motorcycles, an immaculate 1938 Brough Superior SS-80 owned by Gene Brown out of Colorado which took top laurels. The classic Brough impressed us even more when it fired up on the first kick when Brown rode it off stage. David Aldana visits England

Two weeks till David Aldana visits England to race short track. Thursday night we're having a Sideburn evening in Oxford where David is telling a bunch of stories and auctioning off some of his old kit and personal memorabilia. Tickets are very limited.

Friday night is race night at Oxford Speedway when David takes on Europe's best flat trackers.
